Lester Ledesma's

PhotoTreks

Lester Ledesma's PhotoTreks™ are no ordinary tours. We teach you photography, then we take you to the best places for it!

PhotoTreks are bespoke photography tours that are designed to be both culturally immersive and rewarding for avid photography enthusiasts. Participants get to experience the true essence of a destination – its people and their way of life – in a manner that emphasizes its photogenic quality. We schedule our location visits at the best times and in the best light to maximize the chances of great imagery.

PhotoTreks are personally led by multi-awarded photojournalist Lester V. Ledesma (www.skylightimages.info) has covered Asia for over 10 years, and it is this expertise that he brings into each PhotoTrek.

PhotoTreks values photography learning as much as the experience of a place. Our trips include nightly photography critiques and discussions. Being a working travel photographer and photo-editor, Lester knows image making from the planning, execution and editing stages. To prepare participants for the trip, each PhotoTrek begins with an illustrated orientation and a photography lecture.

PhotoTreks ANGKOR : June 2012 "Thanks for the opportunity to join the group in Siem Reap. I really had a great time and enjoyed the photo trek and for sure i will be well recommended to anyone willing to go in Cambodia. The photo trek in Siem Reap was without doubt a trip of a lifetime and an experience I will always treasure. Thanks again and I hope to join you on a photo trek in the future. I enjoyed the whole photo tour especially with that kind of happy group! I learned a lot from our photo critique and mini workshops on the bus."

PhotoTreks MALAYSIA : September 2012 " The Malaysia PhotoTrek was a real eye-opener for both Cathy and me. Aside from the great fellowship we enjoyed and the incredible food-tripping, we're happy we both achieved our goals as photographers. Cathy wanted to reconnect with her roots in street photography and the journalistic approach, while I wanted to break out of my shell and have more confidence in taking pictures of strangers. We also really enjoyed Lester's double-teaming with Luis Liwanag during the critique sessions, it was great to hear them compare points and break down our shots from different viewpoints.

We also felt well taken-care of, the accommodations arranged in both Malacca and KL were clean, comfy and located near interesting places, and the transportation also comfy. If anything, I would've wished for an extra day in Malacca, there was just so much to see and experience there! "

PhotoTreks BANGKOK : December 2012 "My top picks will be:
1) Going around Amphawa/Benjarong and Tha Kha floating market/boat ride - so much to explore 2) Getting the chance to shoot, interact with monks and Amphawa locals 3) Food - eating and trying all sorts of things 4) Evening photography discussions - I learned a lot from here that gave me confidence to shoot more pictures 5) I love the homestay in Amphawa - felt right at home in the Happy Room :)

I think the teaching style was good, I didn't feel much pressure in having to learn about photography even if both Kuya Raymond and Mitch have been into photography for 1-2 yrs. I was initially scared I would feel very much out of place. The fact that I was allowed to shoot the pictures that interest me and get good feedback about my shots motivated me."

PhotoTreks BALI : March 2013 " The focus on "experiences" in addition to just attractions that the eye could see or the cameras could capture. Makes our photos more meaningful! I appreciate the tips that Lester and even Joanne gives us before arriving at a place or when there is a good opportunity and even the tips on what other options to shoot when dealing with the challenges of bad weather. Overall, had a really great time! Learned a lot too!"

PhotoTreks BHUTAN : August 2013 " I'll never forget this tour!!! Bhutan itself was amazing! Loved the big rooms especially the one in the second destination (Punaka), but all the rooms were beautiful. Also Chencho was an excellent guide and he always accommodated our needs. Lester's photography discussions also helped us with our shots. Tiger's Nest was the highlight for me. I wish we had more days to spend in Bhutan and in Thimphu in particular to roam the city. "

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the minimum requirements?

No need to be a hardcore DSLR-toting shooter to join PhotoTreks. All you need is (1) A keen interest in photography (2) A digital camera, and (3) An adventurous spirit.

2. Do I need a DSLR camera?

Don't worry if you don't happen to have a big black Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera. You can bring a point n' shoot, prosumer digicam or even your iPhone. As long as its a digital camera that offers some form of user control, you are most welcome to join PhotoTreks. Rest assured that whatever camera you have, we'll help you take the best possible pictures with it.

3. Can I skip the photo critique sessions?

No. PhotoTreks is a photography tour, and our nightly photography critique/discussion sessions are an important part of it. If you prefer to just go sightseeing, this is NOT the tour for you.

4. Can I ask for a single room instead of the usual twin- or triple- sharing room?

We book twin- or triple-sharing accommodations because these are often the available rooms in our destinations. Single rooms can be requested on a case-to-case basis - if there's one available then we'll arrange for it on-site. Any extra cost will be shouldered by the participant.

5. Is there an age limit for participants?
Yes - the minimum age for PhotoTreks participants is 18 years.

6. Can I change my flight to or from the destination?

If you wish to change your flight destinations, we advise you to buy the flight tickets yourself. Do let us know and we'll see how we can adjust your fee.

7. Can a PhotoTrek be cancelled?

We've never cancelled a PhotoTrek and we don't ever want to. But there can be situations - say, a natural calamity or political situation - when traveling to a destination should not be done. When this happens, we will reschedule the PhotoTrek, or you may opt to back out. In case of the latter, a full refund will be given.

8. Can I cancel my slot?

We require a NON-REFUNDABLE 30% downpayment in order to secure your slot. You may cancel your slot, but the downpayment will not be refunded. In case you've already made full payment and wish to cancel, we will only refund the remaining 70% of the payment.

9. Can I extend my stay?

You most definitely can! Just tell us your plans and we can give advise on your trip extension. Again any the you will have to shoulder the additional cost. Hey, if there's enough members in the group that want to extend (and maybe if you ask him nicely...) Lester might even consider extending the whole PhotoTrek!

10. Do you provide travel insurance?

PhotoTreks does not provide travel insurance - you may inquire about this from an online travel insurance provider, or from the nearest travel agency.
